Харди-Вайнберга закон — закон равновесия частот генов в размножающейся половым путем панмиктической (см. Панмиксис) бесконечно большой популяции. Выражает вероятность распределения генотипов в свободно скрещивающейся популяции в соответствии с коэффициентом разложения бинома Ньютона (p + q)2. Х.-В. з. гласит, что при наличии альтернативных аллелей и одинаковой жизнеспособности разных генотипов исходное соотношение аллелей (независимо от их абсолютной частоты) сохраняется во всех последующих поколениях (популяционное равновесие). При частоте аллеля А, равной p, частота аллеля а равна 1 — p = q. Частота генотипов от сочетания гамет, несущих эти аллели, составит (pA+qa)2 = p2AA + 2pqAa + q2aa =
1. Эта формула и является математическим выражением Х.-В. з. Она следует из равновероятного сочетания разных типов гамет при свободном скрещивании. Факторами, изменяющими концентрации генов в менделевской популяции, являются мутации, отбор, генетический дрейф генов и миграции. Х.-В. з. неограниченно справедлив лишь для идеальной популяции.
